Ciao!
Up this morning about 7 and, first things first, ran our last load of laundry here in the apartment. Seems awful, now that I have finally mastered several different washing machines, that we have to leave! Oh well! Hopefully I’ll be able to find something to use in Corsica! As I indicated yesterday, our ferry boat leaves very early – 8 am departure, 7 am check-in time, and we like to be EARLY! So … spent some time getting us organized, and am piling things up in the front hallway to be carried down in early tomorrow morning.
From the top of Artimino!
Absolutely glorious countryside!
Transplanted tomb with grave goods
Interesting stele
Three-headed incense burner
Interesting ivory plaque
We both loved this glass bowl!
Lots of olives and vines!
Robert's close up of grapes!
They're coming right along!
Narrow 1-lane bridge on 2-lane road...
R's tuna roll
Veggie and shrimp tempura
My Sukiyaki at the table
It was great!
R's shrimp teriyaki!
Then, off we went to Artimino to our last Etruscan museum! (For now, as I said above, as Rreassures me we’ll definitely be back at some point.) Lovely drive across country heading east, toward Florence. As we definitely took the “milk train” home the other night from Torino (stopping at every station along the way and taking truly forever!) it was fun seeing places from the road as opposed to the rails.
As it turns out, Artimino is right on top of yes, another hill top in Tuscany! It is a very small town, but really quite lovely, and we were able to find their museum with no problems. (Other than there were some very NARROW roads that needed careful navigating, knowing that traffic was going both ways…) Very modern and lovely museum in yet another ancient building. Some beautiful finds from the local area. There is both an Etruscan living/housing area here, as well as nearby necropolis. As Robert says, it’s really good that so many of the artifacts found are being left in the area in which they were found, creating some wonderful context to put things together. However, I did come looking for one particular artifact – and GUESS WHAT??? It’s in KARLSRUHE, GERMANY! Incredible how that keeps happening!!! At least I can now say that, as I believe this is our last Etruscan museum on this trip, whatever else we may run into, it shouldn’t have been shipped to Karlsruhe for the exhibition.
It started out as a rather overcast and cloudy morning, but by about 10 am the sun came out and now it’s really lovely. The first thing we did when we got back from Artimino was to move the drying rack outside – we need to get those clothes dry, unless I want to find a dryer somewhere here in town. Then just a little bit of ironing, and I’ll be ready to repack the backs and get us going in the morning!
We are really going to miss Pisa; it is truly a lovely city and we have really enjoyed staying here this week. (When we weren’t somewhere out of town looking at Etruscan stuff!) We are going to go back to “our” Japanese restaurant tonight, and hopefully I’ll be able to have the Sukiyaki. R is contemplating shrimp teriyaki along with the best vegetable fried rice either of us has ever had!
Robert has been wondering about the food we’ll find in Corsica, and hopes that it includes a lot of fish. I’m just hoping it’s not all bruschetta, pizza and pasta, but will take whatever I can find that is NOT fishy! How opposites attract! Robert is also wondering if the Etruscans ever made it to Corsica, and if so, what kinds of remains they may have left behind. We know they did some trading with Corsica but are not sure how much of their culture was transplanted.
We are going there first of all to visit Corsica, where neither of us has ever been, and to see the megaliths that were left from thousands of years ago. From photos we have seen, they do have some resemblance to the Stele Statues from Pontremoli. We are very much looking forward to our visit!
More later,

Hello!
It’s 8:45 pm and we’re just back from dinner at Nishiki Koi. It was great … again! We started the same way we did the other night – an order of tuna roll for Robert, and then we split a shrimp tempura and a vegetable tempura. This time, we both got zucchini blossoms, and they were wonderful!
Then, I ordered my Sukiyaki, and R ordered shrimp teriyaki, both with their vegetable fried rice.
My Sukiyaki was interesting – and apparently, it is not possible to get a raw egg to eat with it for some reason – probably something the EU doesn’t like! R loved his shrimp, but there weren’t that many of them (just four) so he ordered an extra order of vegetable tempura, just to make sure he had enough to eat. We had the same sparkling white wine that we had the other night, and all was wonderful! Now to get ready for bed, as we are up VERY early tomorrow morning to catch the ferry!
‘Night all!
Much love,
m
