I'm not exactly sure where 2018 has gone, but the Brucato's are just about ready for this year's big adventure! (Robert has stopped calling them "trips" as we are gone for so long it seems like we have to re-introduce ourselves to our own house!). At any rate, we are leaving next Friday, May 4 for 6+ weeks visiting Malta, Italy and Corsica, and we would love to have you join us!
As in past years, we will be looking for the really ancient sites along our way, including the Etruscans, Italy's native population, prehistoric temples in Malta, and some very interesting sculpture from Corsica's ancient past.
We will be flying from Tucson to LAX and from there, going Norwegian Airlines directly to Rome. We will be there for several nights (always allowing luggage et al. to catch up with us) and then taking Air Malta to and from Malta for a week. Once back in Rome, we have a list of things to see -- one can never spend enough time in Rome to suit me! We will then pick up a car and head north. Our atlas of Central Italy is basically covered with little arrow stickies (how ever did I plan a trip without them?) and there are may sites and museums that we want to visit. A highlight, I am sure, will be our Museum-guided tour of a very famous tomb outside Orvieto. After Pisa, we will head to Liverno to catch the ferry to Corsica for a week, returning then to Rome and heading home from there.
A short summary of where we will be going
We have rented apartments in Viterbo, Montepulciano and Pisa so that we can have a good base of operations to make visits in different areas. We have found that having a bit more space with a small apartment (or a large apartment, for that matter!) is really much more enjoyable -- the "unpack once" syndrome. Hopefully we will run into some local farmer's markets along the way to gather up some groceries and cook in our apartments! Robert is hoping for cherry season; we'll have to see! My hope is that I can keep my gelato fixation to a minimum ... hmmm...we'll see!
Robert has made up five different maps to show our "plan" and as we go from one country to the next, I will (try and remember) insert the right maps for the right places! I have also included the "gadget" to sign up to get the blog by email. As every single time I have blogged, it has stopped delivering at around 2 1/2 weeks, I will be trying to keep track, but if/when it stops, if you would please let me know and I will begin sending the blog by email. If I start blocking up your email inbox, please let me know and I will be happy to take you off our list; no problem!
After landing in Rome, we're heading east to look for Samnites!
To sign up, go to the column on the right, and follow the directions. You basically insert your email address and then return. Feedburner, the company providing the service, will then send you an email asking you to reconfirm your request to receive the blog. You MUST click on the link (nothing bad will happen; promise!) and follow the directions, otherwise you won't be getting the blog. If you have any questions, please let me know!
We are very much looking forward to your joining us as we navigate the multiplicity of gelato shops in Italy -- oh yes, as well as wander through countless museums along the way!
Lots of love,
m
